A CLEAR ROUND FOR TOM
Youngest rider Tom McKewen made an impressive debut at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. The 20-year-old from Wiltshire came home clear inside the time with Dry Old Party at his first four-star event.
“I am immensely proud of the horse,” said Tom. “Where I got it wrong he got it right and where I got it right it was amazing and the course certainly lived up to the promise of massive.”
Tom has only ridden the former racehorse who shares the same sire – Un Desperado – as Gold Cup legend Best Mate since last year and is now owned by Jess Meed. “I have to say a big thanks to Alex Franklyn who has helped me so much with the horse,” said Tom who also trains with former British team rider Rodney Powell before adding that it might not be a ‘dry old party tonight’.
While Tom is the youngest rider Comanche (58) the ride of Herefordshire vet James Robinson is one of the oldest horses competing at this year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. The veteran 18-year-old, who has been on the Burghley start list for a total nine times, has just completed the cross-country with 7.6 time penalties.
