SGG Pony Club Showjumping

The Rufford claimed their first win in the SGG Pony Club Showjumping competition held at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. Three teams reached the jump off and the result not only depended on the three final riders of each team but ended up decided by the last fence.

When Harry Stott and his 13 year old mare Kira of the Rufford posted their second clear round of the competition Billy Vestey and Daisy of the Newmarket & Thurlow had no option but to match the round. The pair jumped clear and just had the last fence to jump but unluckily for the Newmarket & Thurlow the final rail rolled to the ground meaning a win for the Rufford and second place for the Newmarket & Thurlow.

It was the first ever win for the Rufford in the competition at Burghley.

“We have never won anything as big as this”, said Harry who admitted to pre final round nerves. “Big thank you to our trainer Kirsty Hardstaff.”

Billy Vestey was none the less delighted with Daisy who is just six years old and jumping in her first Burghley Pony Club competition. The grey mare is a family favourite as she is homebred, by Uptons Deli Circus, and her dam Maisy competed in the class with Billy’s older brothers.

The South Norfolk took third place.

All the teams received their prizes from Ed and Linda James of SSG Gloves who are based in Toronto, Canada.
