Horse Trials organisers call on local community to solve accommodation shortage

The organisers of the annual Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials are calling on local residents from in and around Stamford to open up their homes and offer ‘pop up’ bed & breakfast accommodation to visiting media and officials during the September event.
The idea is not new and many national sporting events including Wimbledon and Cowes have established a precedent whereby local home owners either rent out their homes or individual rooms, to help supplement the supply of accommodation and earn some extra money too.
With around 400 members of the media and numerous officials from as far afield as New Zealand, Australia and the USA descending on the town, it’s unsurprising that many find securing convenient, affordable accommodation difficult.
Home owners wishing to get involved can specify exactly how much they wish to charge, the number of visitors they can accommodate and what they are willing to offer: from luxury en-suite bedrooms, or entire houses or apartments, to more modest room-only provisions.
By opening up their doors and offering up a room or rooms, local residents have an opportunity to really become part of the event, with the possibility of hosting leading equestrian officials who may have ‘hot footed’ it back from the Rio Olympics or media representing global organisations such as the BBC, CNN, Tatler and of course Horse and Hound!
Elizabeth Inman, Director of the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, comments: “Support from the local community is integral to the success of our event and we’re once again asking for assistance, this time to help us accommodate some of our most important visitors.
“Not only will it offer a great way for those living close by to bring in some extra revenue, but it’ll also be a unique opportunity to really get to the heart of the action and meet some fascinating visitors to our area too.”
Any local residents who would like to register to provide pop up B&B accommodation to media and officials at this year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials should email: grace.devlin@caa.com for further information.
