Of the 45 horses who completed yesterday’s cross country at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials, 43 were presented to the Ground Jury, Martin Plewa (GER), Kasia Konarska (POL) and Harry Payne (GBR).
Two horses – USA’s Captain Jack (44), Savannah Fulton’s ride, and Ireland’s BLM Diamond Delux (65), the ride of Sarah Ennis – withdrew overnight and therefore did not present to the ground jury this morning.
Four horses were sent to the holding box, two of which withdrew before re-inspection including Caroline Powell’s Onwards And Upwards (73) and Louisa Milne Home’s King Eider (56).
Two horses re-presented after being sent to the holding box including Izzy Taylor’s Trevidden (53) currently in third place after cross country. The dark brown 12-year-old who is competing in his first four star was passed to great applause from the grandstand, but sadly Dee Hankey’s Chequers Playboy (79) was eliminated.
Forty horses will now go through to the final showjumping, with the lower placed twenty starting at 11am, followed by the top twenty this afternoon starting at 2.25pm.
