Land Rover Burghley’s course designer, Captain Mark Phillips CVO, has been presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the recent Horse & Hound Awards evening. The designer of Land Rover Burghley’s cross country course on 25 occasions, Mark originally found success as a rider, winning Gold at the 1972 Munich Olympics and being part of the Silver medal-winning team at Seoul in 1988. He was also a European team Gold medallist at Burghley in 1971 and has won both Gold and Silver at World Championships.
Respected worldwide these days as a course designer and a coach, 2018 has seen courses designed by Mark at both Land Rover Burghley and the World Equestrian Games at Tryon, USA.
Commenting on the presentation of the Lifetime Achievement Award, Land Rover Burghley Event Director, Elizabeth Inman, stated “There could be no more deserving winner. There is no doubt that Mark has played a major part in creating the high standing in which the equestrian community holds our event. All of the team here at Land Rover Burghley offer him our warmest congratulations.”
