A CLEAN SWEEP OF PRIZES FOR FAERIE DIANIMO
The grey mare Faerie Dianimo jumped her way to winning this year’s Burghley Dubarry Young Event Horse five-year-old final. Her win also meant a clean sweep of special prizes as she was also the ‘Best British bred’ and the highest placed mare.
Faerie Dianimo, and Angela Mace gained the highest mark for the jumping phase, which this year involved a longer course of coloured poles and cross country fences, awarded by judges Giuseppe Della Chiesa and Ian Stark. A high dressage mark as well as 13/15 for conformation, meant that the combination went into the final phase with the highest marks of the top ten horses. A nine from judge Christopher Bartle sealed her win giving her a convincing six mark margin of victory.
Bred by long-time and successful event horse breeder Trisha Rickards from Hampshire, Dianimo who is by the Hanoverian dressage stallion DiMaggio out of the Catherston Dazzler event mare Faerie Dazzler was intended as a dressage horse. “She wouldn’t have enjoyed dressage anyway and would have been bored as she just loves jumping too much,” said Jacky Green who has produced the mare since a foal for Trisha.
Event rider Nick Gauntlett was second with The Court Jester a horse he bought in partnership with Kyrle Arscott just three weeks ago. The impressive chestnut with white socks, by Harlequin du Carel, gained the highest mark for conformation and type – 14/15 – from judge Lady Howick. “We bought him from Nicky Rank in Kemble who has done a beautiful job in producing him,” said Nick who has since also qualified him for the British Eventing five-year-old championships.
