FITZWILLAM ARE THE WINNERS

To much applause the local Fitzwilliam Pony Club was the winner of this year’s Pony Club show jumping competition at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. The club that was second last year has been well placed over the years but has not won the competition for over twenty years. This year’s team of; Amy Wells (Austin), Will Rawlin (Jester), Sophie Beaty (Little Big Man) and Emily Meredith (Pudding) was the only one to finish on a clean sheet. “We have had a nerve wracking day as they jumped early this morning and have had to sit nervously through lots of rounds of show jumping – but it is great to win here again,” said trainer Trish Polson.

The North Warwickshire Pony Club team of; Chloe Elliott (Tudor Rose), Zara Heathcote (My Mare Mavis), Kate Bleloch (Morapark Helmes) and Henry Chamberlain (Miss Eillie) headed off their neighbours The Warwickshire to second place. Both teams finished on four faults but the North Warwickshire was faster.

The Puckeridge Pony Club team of Laura Perkins (Victory III), Rosanna Lambert (Imran II), Olivia Potter (Zimbo) and Matt Gibbs (Nolton Tobago) won the prize for the best turned out. All the teams received their rosettes from top British rider Pippa Funnell who is currently in fifth place in the main competition.
