HAZEL IS THE HORSES FOR HEROES HERO
On 10th July over 600 horses, riders and carriage drivers took part in Horses for Heroes – an eight mile sponsored ride through Windsor Great Park and Ascot Racecourse in aid of the military charity Help for Heroes, the charity founded by Bryn and Emma Parry which supports our injured troops on their return from war.
The ride was a great success and over £350,000 has been raised so far. Berkshire Life Magazine, owned by Archant Media, provided an award for the participant who raised the most money to be awarded at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. This was won by Hazel West from Stratford on Avon who was presented with The Berkshire Life trophy by Malcolm Wallace, Chairman of Burghley and HPower, who organised the Horses for Heroes ride. The presentation was made in the main arena after the horse inspection.
Hazel was inspired to take part as her husband George was a Grenadier Guardsman. She and her 18-year-old gelding Henry raised over £11,000 for the cause. “I believe the bravery of soldiers returning from the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan is outstanding so I wrote to a wide circle of friends who were all really generous at donating money,” said Hazel.
