The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials features on television on Wednesday 25th February (BBC2 – 8.00pm) as the spectacular setting for the finals of MasterChef – the popular television series and competition that seeks to discover a new cooking talent.

After several weeks of knockout style heats, held in the more conventional locations of restaurant and studio kitchens, three contestants went through to a series of final challenges, one of which was held at the Lincolnshire venue of The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials last year – home to one of the world’s top international three-day-events.

The three aspiring chefs spent a day in the pressurised atmosphere of the temporary kitchen of the hospitality suite – a challenge made even more stressful due to the difficulties of coping with the wet and muddy conditions created by last year’s exceptional wet weather. Their three course meal was served to 200 guests made up of riders, owners, sponsors and officials who attended Thursday evening’s Event Riders Association Dinner many of whom were asked for their verdict on the meal.

Programme presenters and judges Gregg Wallace and John Torode assessed the cooks composure and competence during the long day in the kitchen. They, and the programme producers and cameramen, also found time to learn more about the sport of eventing, enjoy the atmosphere of the Park and visit the historic Burghley House.

“Hosting MasterChef was definitely a first for the sport of eventing as well as a unique challenge for Burghley,” said Elizabeth Inman Director of The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. “Despite the weather, which didn’t make things easy for cooks or camera-men, everyone enjoyed their day – you’ll have to tune in to see what we all thought of the food though! I can’t wait to find out which of the final three talented young cooks is crowned the champion this year.”

To find out who conquered the culinary challenge to take the title of ‘MasterChef’ tune in to BBC2 on Wednesday 25th February at 8.00pm

This year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials take place from the 3rd-6th September 2009 at Burghley House, Stamford, Lincolnshire.
