Twenty-four-year old Phoebe Buckley gained the prize for the highest placed rider ‘under 25’ at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

Phoebe, from Bury St Edmonds, rode Dr Polly Taylor’s 13-year-old grey mare Little Tiger, also the highest placed mare, into 16th place rising from 51st after the first day’s dressage. It was the first Burghley completion for the combination that has twice completed Badminton.

Phoebe who left school as soon as she could to work with horses first worked for Cambridgeshire event rider Tanya Liddle where she met up with Val Gingell’s The Busker with who she went on to win the title of ‘Under-25’ National Champion in 2005. Later that year the pair led the British Young Rider team to team gold at the European Championships in Sweden, where she was placed fourth individually.

Little Tiger, aka Frostie, was bred by Val Gingell a former event rider and now British Eventing accredited trainer. By the Thoroughbred stallion Java Tiger, Little Tiger usually has the honour of being the smallest horse at any event being ‘just 15.hh on her tiptoes’.
