MISTER GREENGRASS WINS BURGHLEY EVENT PONY
Palomino ponies stood champion and reserve in the South Essex Insurance Brokers P(UK) Burghley Event Pony competition held at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials. Both ponies came from the 138-153cm class with judges Vin Toulson, Frances Sheffield and Nigel Oliver awarding the Champion’s sash to Mister Greengrass ridden by Rosie Manning of the Fitzwilliam Pony Club. The reserve pony was Ballylawn Biscuit who was ridden by Antonia Harrington. “They were both athletic, clean limbed ponies and both jumped good clear rounds as well as going a good gallop,” said conformation judge Vin Toulson.
It is the second Burghley Event Pony championship for Mister Greengrass, a winner at the inaugural competition three years ago with Sam Straker. “We were very honoured that the Strakers allowed us to have him,” said Rosie’s mother who acquired Mister Greengrass at the beginning of the year. The now 16-year-old by Welsh Pony stallion Balmalcolm Starry Halo has been competing in Pony Club activities with Rosie. “He does everything including rallies and tetrathlon,” said Rosie.
Charlotte Harris and her seven-year-old black Welsh section B mare Meadowrose Kestrel in their first season together won the class for ponies not exceeding 138cms with Sophie Plater and the skewbald CJS Tonto second.
Fitzwilliam Pony Club member Alice Brookes won the under 138cms class. Leah Darby of the Albrighton Woodland was second with Silver Fionn.
