Louise Scammell on Just A Nightmare

Nightmare gives a dream ride

Just A Nightmare might have got off to an inauspicious start – 70th after dressage – but the little bay mare redeemed herself yesterday jumping a clear round at The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials for British rider Louise Scammell. The combination pulled up 35 places and Just A Nightmare is currently the leading British mare, and just one of two mares left in the competition.

“She just didn’t want to know in the dressage,” said Worcestershire based Louise who has ridden her for five years. “But she was fantastic cross-country. She just loves her jumping and was a real superstar. I really enjoyed the ride – the more technical the course the better for her.”

The 15.2hh mare by Just A Monarch, one of two by this sire competing at Burghley, is currently in line for the prize of a voucher for two embryo transfers presented by Twemlows Hall Stud to the highest placed British bred mare. “Winning those would be fantastic as we don’t think she would be very motherly – she suffers from agrophobia and won’t stay in the field she just jumps back into the yard,” said Louise, who has been sponsored by Top Spec ever since she won a prize of sponsorship through Eventing magazine.
