THE WAVENEY ARE WINNERS

The Waveney Harriers are the winners of this year’s Burghley Express Café’s Pony Club team show jumping competition.

Besides the National Pony Club Championships this competition is one of the highlights of The Pony Club calendar for Branches in the region.

The Waveney Harriers all-girl team of Annabell Block (Just Because), Nikki Websdale (Sonny Sebastian), Katherine Valori (Windle Amazon) and Virginia Wells (Simply Red), who are trained by branch trainer Emma Lacey, won fair and square – they were the only team of the 37 to start that finished on a clean sheet. “This is so exciting and a big thank you Emma and former International show jumper Maureen Holden for her help with the team’s final preparation,” said the Club’s delighted Assistant District Commissioner Judy Haythornthwaite. It was also the first win here for the club. “We once came third and have been buried on several occasions but winning is the icing on the cake this year.” The Waveney Harriers , one of the most Easterly Pony Clubs in the country, are based on the Norfolk/Suffolk borders while the second placed Cottesmore are just down the road from Burghley. The team of Lisa Freckingham (Heart Of Gold), Harriet Gibbs (Its Miss Moneypenny), Holly Palmer-Davidson (The Predator) and Gaby Cooke (Northcroft) were the fastest of the four-faulters in the jump off. The Leicestershire based Fernie Pony Club were third.
