Four stress-free days in which to enjoy the finest outdoor shopping in the wonderful parkland of Burghley House. With over 600 retailers and 145,000 visitors, it is an essential diary entry for 30th August to 2nd September, when Burghley hosts its 47th world famous annual sporting, social and shopping Event – The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials.

Astute shoppers, who between them spend around £6 million at Burghley, have come to realise that this is the place to buy both the exquisite and the essential; the unusual or the everyday; impulse buys together with well thought out Christmas presents. Whilst many of the retailers are out of the ordinary, more down to earth purchases are not forgotten and all requirements are catered for.

A dedicated team at Burghley hand picks the shops, for many of whom Burghley is the only event at which they exhibit, and this year sees a whole range of tempting new additions alongside the traditional favourites. Avenues lined with shops lead to pavilions brimming with other high-class outlets: Burghley Lifestyle Pavilion, Rural Crafts Pavilions, Country Living Pavilion – all host fine and unusual suppliers. Horse enthusiasts are not forgotten, as The Horse Village and World of the Horse are on hand to ensure that everything from a hoof pick to a riding holiday is on offer.

There’s no better way to start a busy day's shopping at Burghley than with breakfast in the Members’ Enclosure, which is open to all each morning between 8.00 and 9.30am. The emphasis on good food and drink is strong at Burghley, with the food walk home to a plethora of top suppliers, featuring everything from home-grown favourites to more exotic culinary delights.

There is so much to do at Burghley away from both the sporting competition and the shopping. The Land Rover Terrapod experience, situated by the lake is a perfect way to experience how Land Rovers perform over tough terrain, and dog owners can bring their canine companion along to tackle the Pedigree Dog Agility (just for fun). Other displays over the four days will include a musical dressage display, a donkey driving parade, a military band and a parade of Foxhounds.
