For the sixth time the international equestrian year book L’Année Hippique has awarded The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials the riders’ choice award as ‘International Best Event’ of the year.

In 1987 L’Année Hippique first asked riders in the Olympic disciplines to select their favourite shows based on considerations such as stabling, ground condition and course preparation, hospitality and prize money. Burghley won the inaugural award and was subsequently voted ‘Best Event’ in 1992, 1998, 2002 and 2008.

“Winning this award is the icing on the cake of our anniversary year and recognises the attention to detail and hard work undertaken by my administration team and indeed our many volunteers,” said Elizabeth Inman, Event Director.

According to the riders it is the ‘can do’ and helpful attitude together with course preparation that they rate so highly at Burghley. British rider William Fox-Pitt, who recorded a sixth record win at Burghley this year commented that:

“Burghley is one event that my team and I always look forward to. The course and going are always fantastic and the improvement in the facilities for riders, grooms and owners, over the years has been second to none. The atmosphere generated by the administration team and workforce is always friendly – everyone is made to feel welcome. Winning [International Best Event] again this year, especially as it was the 50th Anniversary, is well deserved”.
