The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials has seized upon the demise of the Roads & Tracks and Steeplechase phases from Three Day Events (at four star level), to take a fresh look at the opportunities presented and make some important changes to the layout at this classic of the autumn sporting calendar. Working with Captain Mark Phillips, the Cross Country Course Designer, the Start & Finish area has been re-planned and will now move to Ring 2 from its existing site near the Stables.
“We have wanted to bring the Start & Finish box into the heart of the Event for some years” says Director, Elizabeth Inman “but because of the sheer volume of people and horses it wasn’t logistically possible with the old layout. The new layout will give our visitors the opportunity to look into the Start & Finish box and be even closer to the drama and excitement.”
Ring 2 will continue to hold a full programme on Thursday, Friday & Sunday whilst being transformed for Saturday’s big Cross Country day. The Cross Country warm up area will now move to the old Start & Finish box adjacent to the stables, and the roads and tracks will continue to provide exercise areas for competitors.
Saturday’s picnic parking, now such a popular ticket choice with visitors on Cross Country day “will be as good as ever” confirms Elizabeth Inman. “The use of Ring 2 for the Start & Finish box has provided the opportunity to open up a whole new area of the HaHa in front of Burghley House, which will afford wonderful viewing on Saturday.”
The Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials takes place from 7th – 10th September, and the box office and on-line booking open on Tuesday, 2nd May.
