California-based Canadian Hawley, who was born in British Columbia, began riding in the Pony Club. She teamed up with her first ‘proper’ eventer, Livingstone, when she was 17 and he was just four years old. Four years later the duo finished fourth in the North American Young Riders’ Championship and was added to the Canadian team long list.

In 2003 they won team silver at the Pan Am Games and competed at the 2004 Olympics in Athens.

The 14-year-old Thoroughbred mare Gin & Juice (aka Ginny), was bred at Hawley’s Californian base in Temecula by owners Terry and Linda Paine, who are involved in the Thoroughbred industry. Hawley, who trains with Buck Davison, took the ride when Ginny was five. Last year they finished ninth at Lexington four-star and went on to win team silver at the WEG, completing on their dressage score in 17th place.

Hawley is married to Gamal Awad.
